PCG Guangzhou welcomes CAEXPO Secretary General

10 April 2025, Guangzhou – Consul General Iric Cruz Arribas welcomed China-ASEAN Expo (CAExpo) Secretary General Dr. Wei Zhaohui in a meeting at the Philippine Consulate General in Guangzhou on 10 April 2025.

The meeting focused on the Philippines’ work plan and preparations for the 22nd CAExpo in Nanning, scheduled to take place on 17-21 September 2025. Dr. Wei also provided a briefing on the Expo’s upgraded exhibition, upscaled spaces, and presentation of artificial intelligence (AI)-related technology and industries.

On the occasion of the 50th Anniversary of the Diplomatic Relations between the Philippines and China this year, Consul General Arribas and Dr. Wei proposed to have a joint commemorative activity this year.

CAExpo, inaugurated in 2004, is an annual trade fair and a significant platform to promote bilateral economic cooperation between ASEAN countries and China, and has over the years, been a venue for deepening ASEAN-China people-to-people exchanges, cultural engagement, and tourism promotion.

  

PCG Guangzhou attends a Seminar on Guangdong's Modern Industrial System Development

Guangzhou, 9 April 2025 – The Philippine Consulate General joined over 60 consulates general at the Seminar on the Development of Guangdong’s Modern Industrial System organized by the Guangdong Foreign Affairs Office at Zhudao Hotel, Guangzhou. 

Deputy Director Generals Jiao Jun and Shuang Dehui reported Guangdong’s 2024 GDP at CNY 14T (USD 1.90T) and foreign trade at CNY 9.11T (USD 1.39T). Guangdong produces 70% of the world’s drones and 40% of smartphones. Key sectors include AI, green petrochemicals, and new energy.

In the seminar, Consul General Iric Cruz Arribas stressed the value of e-commerce in supporting imports from countries like the Philippines. Guangdong officials noted e-commerce remains in development. 

Consul General Arribas also met Guangdong Foreign Affairs Office Director General Chen Guangjun and Deputy Director General Qian Hongjie, who welcomed plans for Kalayaan Day 2025 and the 50th anniversary of PH-China ties.

  

Republic Act No. 8042, otherwise known as "The Migrant Workers and Overseas Filipinos Act of 1995", was enacted to address the various problems encountered by Filipinos overseas. Accordingly, the Third Pillar of Philippine Foreign Policy recognized the significance of the economic, political and cultural contribution of Filipino migrant workers, for which they warrant protection from the Philippine government. This led to the creation of the Assistance-to-Nationals (ATN) Section at all Foreign Service Posts.

The Assistance-to-Nationals (ATN) Section of the Philippine Consulate General in Guangzhou provides prompt and appropriate services to Filipino nationals within its jurisdiction. It is committed to ensure the welfare of Filipinos in accordance with existing rules and regulations of the Philippine government and the host country. Services of the ATN Section include the following:

1. Counseling services
2. Settlement of labor-related issues
3. Monitoring and reporting of criminal and administrative cases of Filipinos
4. Regular Consular/Jail visits to Filipino inmates and detainees
5. Repatriation of Filipinos
6. Medical assistance 
7. Hospital visits
8. Shipment of human remains
