Establishment of China - Philippines Diplomatic Relations
Diplomatic relations between the Republic of the Philippines and the People’s Republic of China were established with the signing of a joint communiqué by then-Philippine President Ferdinand E. Marcos and then Premier Zhou Enlai on 9 June 1975. This milestone was soon followed by the inauguration of the Chinese Embassy in Manila and the Philippine Embassy in Beijing.
Establishment of the Philippine Consulate General in Guangzhou
The Philippine Consulate General in Guangzhou was officially established on 23 March 1997 in fulfillment of an agreement entered into by the Republic of the Philippines and the People’s Republic of China. The agreement was made in November 1996 during the state visit of then Chinese President Jiang Zemin to the Philippines.
A ceremonial opening was held on 23 May 1997 at the White Swan Hotel in Guangzhou. Both Chinese and Filipino dignitaries graced the occasion:
